Curriculum

The Play On! curriculum is designed to build skills in an age appropriate and fun manner.  Students can begin while in pre-school and participate through eighth grade.  The different age groupings are designed to build upon one another, although students may begin at any age.

Pre-School-Kindergarten:
The Triple Treat program promotes creative play through drama, music and dance.
Each class features a story; students will choose characters then act out the story.  This is followed by movement and music activities that complement the story.  High quality, child-safe instruments are provided.

Lower Elementary:
Play On! Drama
ensembles classes encourage improvisation and teach skills related to story development, character creation and beginning dialogue creation.  The plays are either adapted from favorite stories or created from scratch.  Students help design and paint the backdrops and give input into costumes and props.

**At some locations lower and upper elementary drama ensembles may be combined.

Upper Elementary Super Stars
Play On! Drama
ensembles further their skills in vocal work, more advanced character work and story development.  Original plays are written, or improvisation is combined with known stories and scripted plays.  Students design and paint the backdrops and choose costumes and props.

Middle School All Stars:
Play On! Drama
ensembles produce and act in published plays.  Students help make decisions about the scripts, technical design, ticket sales, budgeting, and casting in addition to acting to give insight into the theatrical process from start to finish.  Advanced acting skills are taught including emphasis on vocal work and text analysis.

Play On! Dance:

Students will explore movement through a combination of Anne Greene Gilbert’s Creative Dance curriculum, and excercises created by Rachel Greengard Galt.  The class lessons are customized for the group.  Students will learn concepts of dance including space, levels and direction and will learn basic choreography techniques and explore stories through movement.
Dance styles include ballet, jazz, modern and hip-hop.

School Residencies and Electives:
Play On! will come to your school for a number of weeks to teach drama or dance skills and produce a performance as part of your school's daily curriculum.  Past residencies include original plays with RMSEL based upon their expedition, and Shakespeare projects with DAT.

Are you or your child interested in auditioning for DSA, college, community theatre?  Maybe you want to become a better public speaker or nail that next interview.
